"Safety Capsule," in context of KuKaRo (Kunst Kamers Rotterdam) 2011
Ten homes on Nordereiland in Rotterdam were opened to artists to infiltrate, invade, install or simply get cozy with some of the local inhabitants. Each artist had 2 weeks to work with the residents to develop a project together. I chose to remove a handful of the most precious/necessary objects from the home and seal them inside this cube. The exterior, constructed of MDF with a faux wood veneer, mirrors the interior flooring of the home and some of the cabinetry/furniture. It has been dislocated in order to preserve its contents should there be some unlikely natural disaster. Although there we many objects that had been collected over a lifetime, curiously the most important turned out to be a plastic tube of skin cream.
